Spearfishing in Panama
We are in the process of creating a website about spearfishing in one of the most promising and still virgin waters in
Central America. Located in Santa Catalina, Province of Veraguas on the Pacific side of Panama, we are perfectly
located to explore Panama´s richest waters, the Gulf of Chiriqui. Spearfishing excursions in the vicinity of Santa Catalina
will bring you close to big snappers, jacks (blue fin, amber jacks, horse eye, rooster fish) and pampanos, tunas (king
mackrel and wahoo at certain times of the year) and groupers.

At spearfishing trips to remoter sites in the Gulf of Chiriqui, like the famous Hannibal Bank and Montuosa island west of
the National Park of Coiba and other remote deep water sites you will encounter - depending on the time of the year - a
large migrating pelagics like huge Yellow Fin Tunas, Dorados, Wahoos and Marlins.

We are not renting any spearfishing gear at the time. You can rent snorkel equipment, wetsuits and weights at the
Scuba Coiba dive shop. For our excursions we are using local fast boats (lanchas) with approximately 25 ft / 8 m length,
what need about 30 to 50 minutes to the sites closer to Santa Catalina and between 1 and 3 hours to remoter sites.
Santa Catalina is just in the process of developing (Eco) tourism. We take this challenge serious and are cooperating
with the local community. Therefore we are using local boats, local captains and local guides, what have of course also
the best knowledge about their area.

Spearfishing in Panama is only possible with lungs and we respect and support this law. For spectacular scuba diving
adventures in the Coiba nationalpark and around Santa Catalina contact
Scuba Coiba in Santa Catalina Panama.
Please also be aware that spearfishing is completely prohibited within the National Park of Coiba - but no worries, there
are more than enough fish outside of it.

As long as our website is not completely set up please contact us for more information via the
Scuba Coiba website.
